After savoring fresh juicy tomatoes all summer long, apples are what I look forward to most in the fall. This gluten free vegan apple crisp is one quick and easy recipe to enjoy your favorite apples.
Apples are a quintessential fall food, right up there with pumpkin and everything Halloween.
An easy recipe with simple ingredients
This gluten free apple crisp has an uncomplicated ingredient list. You most likely need to grab some apples and you are ready.

- Sugar: brown sugar for the crisp topping, granulated in the apple filling.
- Cinnamon: brings that warming spice that pairs perfectly with apples.
- Oats: old fashioned rolled oats are what makes a crisp different from a cobbler.

- Dairy free butter: for that rich buttery flavor.
How to make apple crisp
Coring and slicing the apples make up most of the work in this apple crisp recipe. The only other aspect that seemingly takes too long is waiting for the crisp to bake!
One bowl is used to combine the apple filling and again to make the crisp topping. Transfer the apple filling to the baking dish, and use that same bowl for the topping - I don't even rinse the bowl, anything left simply adds more flavor.
For about 15 minutes of active time, you can enjoy a warm apple crisp with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in about an hour.

Gluten Free Apple Crisp
A delicious fall dessert, this easy recipe has a sweet-tart filling topped with a sweet buttery crisp topping.
Ingredients
Apple Filling
- 5 apples, scrubbed, cored and sliced
- ⅓ cup vegan granulated sugar
- 1 ½ teaspoons ground cinnamon or chai spice
- 1 tablespoon bourbon (optional)
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
Crisp Topping
- 1 cup old fashioned rolled gluten free oats
- ¾ cup gluten free all purpose flour
- ½ cup pecan pieces
- ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon sea salt
- ½ cup dairy free butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375° F. Grease an 8x8 square baking dish with additional dairy free butter or cooking spray.
- In a medium bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon, vanilla, and bourbon if using.
- Add the apples and fold until the apple slices are evenly coated. Transfer to the prepared baking dish and set aside.
- In the same mixing bowl, combine the oats, flour, pecan pieces, brown sugar, cinnamon, sea salt, and melted butter. Stir until a crumbly mixture is formed. Spread the mixture evenly across the top of the apples.
- Transfer the baking dish to the oven and bake at 375° F for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
- Serve warm with dairy free vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
