Smoothie snack
This super quick dairy free smoothie is a fixation right now.
You know how you make something and then just cannot stop the craving? and you end up making this thing over and over and…
Yeah, that never happens here either.
In the afternoons when I need something light that won’t ruin dinner, I have a lemon smoothie.
In the morning after a workout, I add additional protein to this and it is a satisfying second breakfast.
I have added frozen raspberries (oh yeah) and spinach (green!) and spirulina. There are endless ways you can make this smoothie your favorite – I am sharing the base recipe that is equally good as is.
Nutritious and delicious
This dairy free lemon smoothie for those who really love lemon. I really love lemon. For less intense tart flavor, you could juice the lemon instead of adding it whole.
Refreshing lemon is packed with vitamins A, B6, C, and E, and calcium, magnesium, iron and potassium. You get your omega 3 from both the flax and spirulina. Flax brings some vitamin B1 and fiber, and spirulina also provides energy. I always need energy.
Another bonus? Your hands smell like lemon all day.
Smoothie add ins
- Protein: in addition to the dairy free vanilla yogurt, a vegan protein powder is an easy way to boost protein. my top tip with using protein powder is to add it first with the milk / liquid only, and blend until smooth before adding the remaining ingredients.
- Sweetener: I have been loving dates or date syrup as my lower glycemic sweetener. Your favorite will likely work with this smoothie recipe – banana, maple syrup, monk fruit, or allulose.
- Omega 3 Fatty Acids: chia, flax, and hemp are high in essential omega 3, protein, and fiber. Spirulina is also high in omega 3, protein, and antioxidants from phytonutrients.
- Apple Cider Vinegar: probiotic and anti inflammatory benefits tangy flavor
- Spinach: adding fresh baby spinach to your lemon smoothie will add extra protein and nutrients, and a vibrant green color!

I would never think to add a whole lemon to a smoothie, but I bet it is SOOOO delicious and refreshing! Gotta try it out!

Wow, brave one, using Spirulina! (I'm a bad vegan, I think that stuff is ucky.) But the bright lemon beverage? I'm IN. That looks refreshing and gorgeous! (Love the addition of turmeric - Dr. Greger would be proud!)
