Why you'll love this recipe
A tasty twist on a classic comfort food breakfast, Baileys French toast is for cozy weekend breakfast or brunch.
- Flavor: Dairy free Baileys Irish cream gives this an additional warming sweet layer of flavor.
- Texture: This gives crispy edges and a soft middle, as all French toast should.
- Method: An egg free French toast recipe is just as easy as a traditional recipe. Silken tofu replaces the egg, and the custard is blended just as quick as whisking up classic French toast custard.
As one reader says, ★★★★★ "This is our family breakfast during Christmas, because we always make your dairy-free Baileys for gifts. The scent of this French toast is as holiday to me as our live fir tree!"

Irish cream French toast
This Baileys French toast recipe uses dairy free Bailey's Irish cream and steeped black tea. If I don't have tea or don't want to make it, the same amount of dairy free milk works in place of the tea. Choose a thick sliced bread for the fluffiest, most delicious French toast. This one reminds me of my Grandpa Z's French toast...
If you like unique French toast recipes, pumpkin bread French toast is among our favorite breakfast recipes.
Zero proof option
If you don't want to use Irish cream liqueur, Irish cream syrup works well to get that flavor! Add a couple tablespoons to the custard mixture in place of the Bailey's in this recipe.
Tips for the best French toast
- Prepare the griddle! You want the griddle to be hot before you add the French toast slices.
- Thick bread Even day old bread is good. A thicker bread and thicker custard mean no soggy French toast.
- Cook well before flipping Again, nobody wants soggy French toast. Make sure it is cooked through on each side.
How long does this recipe last?
I generally only make enough French toast to enjoy immediately, but making a few days worth for quick breakfasts is a good plan. My rule for maximum flavor and freshness is to enjoy leftover French toast within three days.
After French toast has cooled, refrigerate in a glass container with a tightly fitting lid.
Reheating methods
If you are making extra to enjoy for quick easy breakfasts this week, Baileys French toast reheats easily and is just as good a day or two later!
- Stovetop: Reheat on the stovetop in a skillet over medium heat.
- Air Fryer: Air fry at 350 °F and check after 3 minutes. Carefully flip over and continue heating for another couple minutes as needed.

To remain gluten free, what kind of bread do you use?
Kristina Sloggett says
hi Ally, most often I buy loaves from our local gluten free bakery (New Cascadia Traditional); right now my favorite store bought brand of gluten free bread is Franz - they have two or three flavors, a multigrain, a white, and a raisin I believe. delicious and VERY soft, has the attributes of a "regular" slice of bread!
