Lemony Blackened Broccoli Pizza - bright lemon flavors this roasted broccoli that tops this cheesy classic pie - plant based comfort food!
I am a Burning Man attendee.
Jason is a Rainbow Gathering attendee.
Growing up in different parts of the country, I'm thinking. We both followed the Grateful Dead a bit, but that is another story for ... another blog day.
At Burning Man, the "currency" is trade - a no cash operation.
At Rainbow, apparently you get such a craving for Snickers bars that you drive 40 miles for one. It was worth it, I hear.
The following year, when Jason returned to The Big One (literally called The Nationals), he was enterprising - he brought with him cases and cases of Snickers bars. Sold them for $5 a piece, easily.
Then he learned from his friends at Tea Time (where you can always get delicious fresh brewed tea) that if you eat sugar out in the sun, you attract mosquitoes.
The Snickers bars were hidden away, and out came the sale of garlic. 😉
Away went the mosquitoes.
Out came the Snickers bars...?
I see how a trend can circle here.
I think all I'd need to use as currency is this pizza. Everyone would love it. It's green.

Yum! This looks super tasty. I love a good vegan pizza :).
Somer says
Gorgeous, so, do the daiya wedges taste better than their shreds? I can't believe how stretchy that is!
Kristina Sloggett says
YES they do!! I wasn't a big fan of the shreds, and I LOVE the wedges - havarti is my favorite but I love them all. it is so melty good!
Somer says
Good to know, I thought the shreds were a bit... boogery... 😉
Kristina Sloggett says
*giggle*
Kristina Sloggett says
... I think it is not usually that stretchy, I had another 'cheese' with it but it was out of wrapper so I couldn't remember which kind...
Somer says
No worries! xx
Jess says
I love your stories!!! AND your recipes (mmm lemon, broccoli, pizaaaaaa). AND you!! <3
Kristina Sloggett says
XXO!
lindsay says
maybe frozen snickers? hehe We have those at festivals. But you know austin, so many unique festivals, like portland!
Kristina Sloggett says
ding ding ding, Lindsay wins with frozen snickers!! and yes... I have been to a few of Austin's festivals... 😉
Heather (Where's the Beach) says
I really want that pizza right now! Wow, love the flavor combos going on there. I've never been to any festival quite like that. Does Memphis in May count? Probably not. Now, Snickers are good, but not sure they're THAT good. Maybe wine...yep, definitely wine 😉
Kristina Sloggett says
wine. yes. you would get along just fine in the barter system with wine. 😉
Sarena (The Non-Dairy Queen) says
Dang that pizza looks good! I chuckled when you said you were a Burning Man attendee...
I've never been to a festival like that. I don't know, sweets seem like a good idea to take for trade. 😉
Kristina Sloggett says
it was years ago. college stuff, you know. Jason makes fun of my Burner days, and I make fun of his Rainbow ways...
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
I kind of ate this the other night. If by eating broccoli, tomato sauce, and a jumbo-sized, locally made herbed English muffin counts as 'pizza.'
We can call it deconstructed?
Kristina Sloggett says
hmm - we were on the same wavelength again! and YES, English muffin pizza is a childhood classic!
Laura @ Sprint 2 the Table says
Can I have the pizza and then snickers for dessert?
Having been to a lot of huge festivals... Sadly my currency would be toilet paper.
Sarah @ The Smart Kitchen says
Sadly?! SADLY?!?! Toilet paper is gold.
Now THERE'S a thought: gold toilet paper.
Wasteful. But fun.
Kristina Sloggett says
agreed. that's just smart. as long as you don't trade it all away...
Kristina Sloggett says
see? that shows you know what's up. sadly nothin', that's genius! trade ya a snickers for a roll...
Andrea Mynard says
I have a glut of purple sprouting broccoli at the moment, loving it but very keen to use it in a few different ways. hadn't thought of pizza so thanks for the idea.
Kristina Sloggett says
lucky you with all that broccoli! enjoy!
Tiff @ Love, Sweat, & Beers says
Can beer be a currency? I think people would pay a lot for that. 🙂
I haven't made pizza crust in a such a long time. I need to check out your recipe!
Kristina Sloggett says
absolutely they would - that's just smart trading.
