Add spicy ginger to your smoothies
This spicy mango smoothie recipe is incredibly nourishing, with that spicy ginger we both love. (I am always heavy handed on our ginger in these, and I use fresh ginger.)
Chia and spinach gives it the staying power I want from a smoothie, and the mango makes me giddy for our next visit to the islands. This smoothie comes from my friend Becky's eBook, 40 Days of Green Smoothies.
This fabulous collection of recipes will help kickstart your mornings with this 40 day program designed to develop your green smoothie habit. Divided into weeks complete with shopping lists, this eBook is packed with nourishing smoothies that are straightforward, quick, and extremely tasty.
This spicy smoothie is an easy one for us, because you can always find mango in my freezer! Fresh kale works as a sub for spinach too...

- ½ cup frozen banana
- ½ cup frozen mango
- ½ cup fresh spinach
- ½ tablespoon ginger juice or ginger puree (see notes on ginger)
- ½ to 1 cup water (see notes on water)
- 1 tablespoon chia seeds
- 2 ice cubes
Instructions
- Add the banana, mango, spinach, ginger, chia, ice cubes to a blender jar.
- Add ½ cup water to start with, and blend at highest speed until smooth.
- Add additional water by the ¼ cup if needed, until desired consistency is reached.

Notes
Ginger
I use 1 inch of peeled fresh ginger in place of ginger juice.
Water
If I have it, I will always use coconut water in place of water in smoothies, for the additional nutritional benefits.
