When Activia asked for a follow up post about Quick and Easy Snacking Habits, I immediately said yes (then started taking photos at snack time). I am a snacker. Some days I snack all day – smaller ‘meals’ in place of the traditional three. I get even more variety that way, right?
I am one of those who always has something to eat with them – I never know when I might get hungry – and I sometimes go from okay to crazy shaky snappy very quickly. My handbag always has a backup bar and bag of cashews in it, I always have a water bottle with me, sometimes a piece of fruit. I admit to being far too picky about bruised fruit, so this is only when I can leave it in my car or know it won’t be bounced around too much.
I know, I am right now laughing at my crazy control issues.
When packing for a trip, I actually love to plan the snacks for the flight, often with a dedicated shopping trip just for those.
When I am home and snacking, Basil always takes that as a cue that he needs a treat as well – and you cannot say that word without giving him one. When my snack is something like celery, peanut butter and pretzels, I usually share a bit at the end…
Lately one of my favorite quick snacks is snap peas dipped into noocho cheese and buffalo sauce. Fresh, filling and a little feisty.
Another easy anytime snack? My sanswich:
Relaxing after the gym or a run on the treadmill, I have chocolate (almond) milk or a protein shake with a banana. Recover, repair and replenish – a protein and a carb is a perfect pairing.
Another favorite? Peanut butter stuffed dates. Sweet, salty and satisfying – these are good before a trip to the gym, when I need something but don’t want to eat a lot. Protein again – to give you energy and stamina for the workout.
Recently, I have enjoyed a couple reuben rolls as a snack:
Mid afternoon and don’t want to ruin my dinner? Granola, ginger and tea. Especially in the winter, a cozy warm up is a good break in the day.
