    Papaya Turmeric Mocktail

Last weekend was a whirlwind for me, a straight up whirlwind.

I promise to share more details of the wedding and all the events around it soon. Today I am recapping my Bringin' Healthy Back goals, and how I am doing with them. We have had friends in town all week, and until a couple days ago, we were busy entertaining. I have finally returned home for some relaxation and downtime. I got back on the treadmill, and also out in the perfect fresh fall air with dachshund walks. My fitness tracker bracelet has shown exceeds goal each day, which I am always happy about. So I'd say that even with all the extra celebration that has been happening, I have managed to ramp up the fitness part of my goal.

The other aspect of my Bringin' Healthy Back included more homemade food, more juicing, more fresh and clean and green. Every day during the wedding weekend, I juiced. Fresh juice at home, and then when we moved to the hotel I brought juice and coconut water with me. Hotel mini fridge stocked. I made sure to stay hydrated, and coconut water was nutritionally good since I knew I'd be too nervous to eat much after breakfast on wedding day. I snacked a bit here and there, and ate the amazing plant based appetizers, entree and cake. Now that we have returned home, the last couple days have been Big Salads, fresh juice, and all kinds of fresh, whole food.

    and wedding cake.

On the Dr. Oz show this week, Dr. Andrew Weil talked about remedies he has found in his travels around the world. He visited Okinawa, Japan to study the 'healthy old people' there, and discovered the pain relief properties of curcuma longa, or turmeric. I use turmeric often, so I listened up! In addition to pain relief, Dr. Weil explained turmeric is an anti inflammatory agent (the main benefit I see), helps with arthritic pain and has cancer protective properties as well.

Dr. Weil's Turmeric Tea is simple - it looked to be about a tablespoon of ground turmeric with a cup of boiling water - simply stir to dissolve, then pour through a fine strainer and drink! He said he would drink it cold in Okinawa.

One of the juices we enjoyed this week is adapted from a mocktail Dr. Oz made on the show. Papaya is what I started each day with when visiting Grandpa in Hawaii, and the tropical memory was a good one. Add my favorite turmeric, some lime and coconut, and enjoy!
