Today is Jason’s birthday:
He opened all of these last night, as I was waaaay too excited to wait. Yes, I’m like a kid on Christmas morning. He is working a half day, and tonight I’m taking him to a special dinner.
Our birthday morning breakfast was simple, tasty, cool and refreshing: vegan overnight oats. Last night, this is what I mixed, each serving:
1/2 cup hemp milk
one serving vanilla protein powder
1/2 cup Gluten Free oats
Mix together and store in fridge for the night.
This morning, it went into my favorite breakfast bowls:
with a banana:
and… HEMP HEARTS!
I am *SO* excited about these! Hemp Hearts have many benefits:
more required amino acids than milk, meat or eggs
a complete protein source – more balanced and digestible than soy
high in omega 3, 6 and 9
suitable for those unable to eat gluten, sugar, milk, nuts and meat.
one serving (5 tablespoon) contains 314 cal energy from 20 g protein
I am excited by phrases “turbo charge” and “fuel up” on the packaging – both Jason and I love foods that energize. We both loved these oats this morning – the taste of the hemp hearts is GOOD – minimal flavor, “creamy” flavor I often associate with hemp foods. There is a warning for sedentary individuals to not consume hemp hearts again after breakfast – they may have too much energy to sleep. I don’t think I have to worry about that!! 🙂
You’ll hear much more about hemp hearts from me soon…
These oats were delicious. I like the banana addition… and I am especially loving the overnight oats now that it is warm, summertime! I want a cool breakfast. I love my new bowls, they’re fun. 🙂
We grilled the other night, had a houseguest and a few friends over. Jason wanted to grill jalapenos, so I got some jalapeno peppers:
and some cream cheese, vegan style (this stuff is amazing) :
I mixed the cream cheese with a little bit of this:
and filled the peppers:
put their hats on:
filled the grilling basket and onto the grill they went:
These are amazing. So delicious, and quite a bit of heat. We all whined and flailed our arms, claiming too hot, too hot! Then we ate more. There were no leftovers.
Happy Birthday Jason ! I celebrate you !
