It is officially fall!
Whatever – it is time for boots and sweaters and tights and scarves and boots! It is time for warming, comfort foods, it is time for all things pumpkin.
But… I sorta have pumpkin year round, and am not really a fan of pumpkin in my coffee.
I suppose what I am saying is that I never really go overboard with the pumpkin.
But. I did make you a loaf of pumpkin bread. Actually, two. Perfectly sweet, with a salty seeded topping. That’s the kicker for me – I have always loved pumpkin bread, and now I will think all pumpkin breads need the salty addition.
It is good.
Honeymoon update! This week, our road trip finds us in the Black Hills and the Badlands. Yesterday we [click to continue…]
Portland’s late summer has been a hot one – on our wedding day, we were on the Departure rooftop deck in 98 degree temperatures. We took photos quickly, and joked about taking the next photos in the restaurant walk in…
The heat has continued through our first two weeks of honeymoon – vacation, which has been great while we’ve been out playing in our own city before we travel. We have been enjoying some lake side happy hours on warm evenings, complete with awesome kombucha flights.

So, I guess there is a thing about saving the top tier of your wedding cake, for an entire year, to enjoy on your first anniversary?
Yeah, we didn’t do that.
We saved it. We brought it home. It sat in my parent’s fridge for two whole days.
Then we ate it.

Sweet and spicy dipped into sweet and savory.
Meet my new favorite snack.
Roasting garlic is one of my favorite things – my mom and I have made a lunch from a whole roast garlic spread onto crackers. Mmm.
Roast garlic mixed with sweet mango? Heaven. Dipping curried potato rounds into this garlic mango Heaven? Sweet comfort food goodness.
I am back on my potato habit. They have been lunches lately – baked and fluffed and stuffed with [click to continue…]

My friend Kathy Hester has another book out next week, September 16. While I have and love all of Kathy’s books, I am particularly excited about this one, because it is all oats. OATrageous Oatmeals, to be exact. Excited because I love oats, and excited because one of my recipes is in this book! I was so very honored to have it included, it is a fun one.
Easy Oat Roti, Sausage Crumbles and Eggplant Pizza Sliders are a few of the savory dishes I cannot wait to try. On the sweets side, Kathy’s creative mind thinks up London Fog Hot Tea, Mini Raspberry Cakes, and Bourbon Oat Shortbread (those are in my oven right now – the kitchen smells so good).
This book is packed with all kinds of goodness, and if you like oatmeal and overnight oats, this book is definitely for you – [click to continue…]
This morning, with the window open to the cool fall morning, I am feeling that Back To School nostalgia, a new beginnings of sorts.
With the wedding happening tomorrow, EAK tomorrow, the planning is complete. My work with Dad’s estate is nearly over. Another large project turned into a smaller collaboration, leaving me to some travel and some new exciting projects and plans.
One of those [click to continue…]
I am getting married in a week.
I am surprisingly calm.
I hear other brides talk about stress and frustration, and all I am thinking is, I must be missing several huge aspects. That thought is enough to cause stress. Ha! But really, this has been all fun and little stress.
The only thing I am completely totally nervous about is being able to speak. Will I even be able to speak? Jason and I are writing our own vows, and the years we have shared and the trials we have faced do nothing to minimize my emotions of this day – I am still giddy excited to be marrying my best friend. Plus, I cry at everything. Guh.
I am lucky that one of my [click to continue…]
