It’s my third cookbook review of Mofo, and again, I am giving away a copy to a lucky reader!

I am also sharing with you a recipe from the book – for one of the best smoothies I have ever had. Really, Jason keeps asking for it, I keep making it. I mean, a candy bar smoothie?

Yes, it really tastes like a candy bar. Adding the protein is what we generally do, and this easily takes me through a busy morning.

Bake and Destroy Vegan Cookbook

This week I bring you Natalie Slater’s new book, Bake and Destroy – Good Food for Bad Vegans (or as the back cover states, “Vegan Recipes That’ll Punch Your Taste Buds in the Mouth”).

I have already made her Honky Tonk French Toast (I always have to try the French toast…), Game Day Dip (because… yeah, football), and the Chicago-style sandwich. All over the top tasty.

With beautiful photography and fun stories on every page, Natalie’s high energy cookbook is fun to just sit down and read.

Recipes I will be making: Fruit Punch Winkies (yes, a bright red fruit flavored snack cake), Mighty Migas (the first breakfast I veganized, I cannot wait to try another version), and the Indian Buffet Pizza. That just sounds incredible.

and this smoothie. This smoothie is now permanent in our standard breakfast rotation.

Seems simple enough! I would omit the coconut because I think it tastes like suntan lotion smells, but to each their own. Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don’t. 😉

I can’t remember the last time I act a candy bar, but I like the little mini ones once in awhile (and a small piece of chocolate every night after dinner. Chocolate closure.) A favorite? Couldn’t pick. Rolos, Heath, PB cups, Snickers–anything in small doses!

My favorite these days is probably not considered a candy bar by some, but it’s the Nugo Gluten Free Chocolate Crunch.

Btw, that smoothie sounds wonderful! I have everything but the almond butter at home and I have almonds to make that :)

  3. says

This looks like one of those smoothies I could slurp up for breakfast and for dessert everyday…totally addicting. 😉
My favorite candy bar I think is Theo’s Fig, Fennel & Almond 70% Dark Chocolate…I love all of their bars but that flavor combo spins me silly. :)
    Thanks for the recipe. Cheers!

I think I’m gonna haul my sorry butt out of bed and make this. I just wish I had some almond milk on hand or hadn’t just finished off the almond butter. Cashew butter it is then (yeah, BIG sacrifice). My favorite candy bar used to be Milky Way’s Twilite Bar. No its’ Endanger Species’ Dark Milk Chocolate bar.
Thanks for the review. I just put her book on my wish list!

I had to fight myself before answering, but I’m going with everything Vosges makes. In fact, I want to have all of their chocolate so I can keep it in my apartment!

  6. Megan says

We have smoothies for breakfast almost every morning and sometimes for dessert too! This sounds great! My favorite candy bars from childhood are Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and KitKat Bars.

  7. says

Well, now I need to go get some cacao nibs. :) NOM. It’s way too hard to pick just one candy bar–I like schmancy chocolate bars, the Amy’s crunchy chewy etc series, and the more usual M&M/Mars bars. Thanks for the giveaway opportunity!

  8. Emily says

I’m always looking for new smoothie recipes for my son, and this looks delicious. My favorite candy bar is the Chocolove almonds and sea salt bar.

  9. Lisa K. says

My favorite candy bar(ish) was always peanut butter cups. Vegan ones are hard to find, though so I usually make my own peanut butter balls.

  10. Trina says

Will have to try this when I go purchase some cocoa nibs.

When I ate candy bars I lived three musketeers and regular Hershey bars!!!!

About to like spabettie on Facebook!!!

  11. Diana says

MMMmmmmmmmmm! My favorite candybar is, without a shred of doubt, the Cherry Mash! I actually wrote the president of the Chase Candy company and told him the same–and he wrote back! I have been a fan for 41 years… :)
Can’t wait to try your Candy Bar Smoothie!!! Thank you for all you do! Diana

  12. says

I hope this is open to overseas vegans too… : )

It has been awhile since I’ve had a candy bar, but I like marzipan a lot and eat chocolate covered ones at least once a week, oh, marzipan.

  13. says

Love, love LOVE this!! We make one very similar, only I don’t add the cinnamon or the coconut. Am going to have to try that. I’m loving your book reviews! Keep them coming!
Favorite candy bar?? Butterfinger! Any chance of a butterfinger smoothie??!!

  14. Jennifer K says

my favorite candy bar before going vegan was a tie between Twix and Coffee Crisp. Now that I’m vegan I love anything from Go Max Go

  15. Marcella says

Reeses PB cups are my favorite although I don’t remember when I last had one.

I have completed the requirements for this giveaway. TY

This recipe sounds amazing, I can’t wait to try it!!
