six ways to use marinara

I still have a bit of my slow cooker basil marinara left, and there is definitely no shortage of things I can top with this freshly fragrant sauce. In this month’s issue, Cooking Light shared their Six Ways to Use Marinara Sauce – while many look appealing, this is a list largely made up of foods my omnivorous friends would enjoy.

I have many recipes that use marinara, and I picked out six of my favorites. The Big Night Timpano (boy, was that fun!) contains egg so it is vegetarian, and the other five are vegan.

Here are my six ways to use marinara – enjoy:

basil quinoa ‘meat’ ball marinara sandwiches


tomato basil beanballs


a topping at the hot dog bar

I loved using my sauce with those beanballs. Jason likes to use it with “meatball” sandwiches (which the beanballs worked well for). And of course your lasagnas or pasta bakes. Pretty much….you can put the sauce on paper and it’s good 😉 Hope today is a smoother day for you.

Pfft, how CAN’T you use marinara?? Everything is better with it! I really like whisking up my eggs with italian spices and then topping with marinara–totally legit “pizza” for breakfast. Or marinara on just plain steamed broccoli? Heaven!

(PS–Your pepperoni chili inspired me to finally pick up a package of veg pepperoni. I am beyond excited for dinner now…)

oh, YAY! I hope you like it – the Tofurky brand is really close in flavor, I think – I’ll be curious to see what you think (and I HOPE you like it!) :)

have you ever cooked an egg in marinara? eggs in hell or something like that – Mario Batali does it. I always meant to do that when I was a regular egg eater – I should try the next time I get happy chicken fresh eggs from my friends! :)

I would say the best thing I use marinara sauce is for my home made pizza!

oh my,, that meatball sub and the timpano! i dont make as much marinara.. but i could make a whole lot to eat all of these!
