superfood cuisine giveaway

Happy Holidays!

I love superfoods. My current favorites are yacon (syrup or dried root) and mulberries. I have been using some of the ‘standard’ superfoods for ages, from starting each morning with blueberries in my spinach smoothie to my favorite staple, quinoa. I cook with ingredients like lucuma, maca and flax often, and I am drawn to the natural flavors.

I have been loving the new Superfood Cuisine cookbook by natural food chef Julie Morris. This guide to cooking with superfoods has more than one hundred recipes, accompanied by beautiful full color photos.

More than a cookbook, this is an essential primer for those wanting to learn more about superfoods. A detailed section “The New Superfood Pantry” highlights nutritional benefits, flavor profiles and recommended uses. I also love the “Superfood Substitution Cheat Sheet”, because, well, I sometimes run out of something and then forget to replace it before I need it.

The first few recipes I have tried have been incredibly flavorful – the Black Bean Hemp Patties (pictured above)

and the Lucuma Ice Cream Cupcakes

This giveaway is for a copy of the Superfood Cuisine cookbook, and I am including packages of my favorite superfoods – lucuma and maca powders, yacon root, sun dried mulberries (I snack on these all the time, they are so sweet!).

Awesome giveaway! I’ve been meaning to check out this book for a long time – I love the idea of a Superfood Substitution Cheat Sheet.

Lately I’ve been digging pomegranate, and chias are my super-staple. Chia pudding for breakfast is s good way to start the day!

  2. Laura says

I tweeted, now following Julie, too. We have blueberries, chia seeds every morning. We do quinoa, too. I’d love to learn more about super foods and how to cook them.
I love the mango smoothie but parsnips fries would be a big hit at our house, too. The squash and pecan recipe looks fab, too.

  3. Kiersten says

I recently discovered chia seeds and eat them at least once a day and I always love spinach, blueberries, and quinoa.

  4. Kiersten says

I think I would have to try her candy cane white hot chocolate since candy canes are one of my very favorite things about the holiday season and white chocolate is my favorite!

  5. says

Wow, there are so many good recipes on her site, thanks for introducing me to it! First up would be the lemon coconut breakfast bars and the dilled kale crisps

I NEED this book! It’s on my Amazon wish list but it may be months before I can afford to buy it =/

I’m a huge fan of maca (I eat it daily) and lucuma (I save that for special occasions!). Matt likes goldenberries and gojis. :)

  7. says

My favorite superfood is broccoli :-) Maybe that makes me weird, but I love it!

Also, unrelated to the giveaway, could you share some of your lucuma powder recipes? I bought a bag of it, and then realized that I have no idea what to do with it!

  8. Ashley says

  9. Sarah L says

  10. Sonja says

chia, oats, flaxseed, goji berries … those cooked up in some almond milk, topped of with some banana and blueberries make up what has come to be known in our household as “superfood oats”. This is our go-to breakfast and I just couldn’t do without its superduper ingredients!

  11. Brooke says

I would really like to try her recipe for goldenberry glazed squash with pecans. I love squash and pecans. So I’m bound to love it.

  12. Deb Harris says

I love sweet potatoes, kale&spinach. New “loves” didn’t lIke them before at all. Love Acai & pomagra it’s juice. We are almost never without blueberries either fresh or dried. Even started growing some bushes in our yard. I would love to win this as I’m just beginning to try to focus on a much healthier diet with many more super foods, even the unfamiliar ones due to chronic illnesses with flare-ups that are getting more frequent, last longer & seem to take more out of me. Have also gained 30 lbs inast 4 years (after lifetime of difficulty keeping wt on ) really need healthy diet & activity & finess that I can do. This would be great start

  13. sarah garvey says

I really want to try Julie’s recipe for the sweet seed candys. They look so simple (3 ingredients!) but so good.

  14. says

LENTILS!!! I love lentils! It’s one of those things where that sub a meaty flavor but pack such a nutritional punch. I actually will be having them for dinner tonight :)

  15. Deb Harris says

I would have a difficult time choosing which recipe to try first, but I honk it would be the Portabella burger or he Glazed acorn squash with pecans.

  16. Anneh says

Maybe I need this book, because I don’t know which foods I like are “superfoods”! Other than blueberries, which are listed in the book description, so I know that one. I love blueberries, especially when they are fat and sweet and grainy inside. My husband can eat them by the huge handful and never gets tired of them either!

  17. Anna says

I just checked out Julie’s website — what a great resource! I may actually make her Asian Carrot & Avocado Salad for dinner tonight!!

  18. Lynette Cruz says

  20. Heather says

I have to say, the mango smoothie DOES look delicious, so does the goldenberry squash dish! Ahh the tricks of the trade to win my carnivorous partner’s tastebuds!

  21. Heather says

For superfoods, I tend toward the simple, easy to find ones: kale, blueberries, apple cider vinegar. I’m planning to get myself some maca root powder and make Julie’s hot maca drink, though– maybe with some added chai spices!

  22. Lindsay says

Oh goodness my heart just sings for spirulina. Is it just me or does it taste like almonds? Spirulina definitely made my Christmas list this year (hey, a college kid has gotta do what a college kid has gotta do to get her sea veggie fix). I’m hoping to try yacon root someday too!

  23. Kat says

I haven’t tried all the superfoods, yet, and don’t have a recipe book, yet, but my body has smiled with those I have tried. Not sure if blueberries and cherries count, but they are my favorite. And I have been using cacao, maca and chia nearly every day the occasion arrises.
